Payment card statement processor

Monthly statements for over 50,000 clients — generated, encrypted into PDFs and emailed, driven by message queues.

Client

Financial institution and payment card issuer.

Challenge

Efficiently generate monthly credit card usage and account statements for over 50,000 clients, encrypt them into password-protected PDFs, and seamlessly deliver them via email at the start of each month.

Solution

To address the secure and reliable processing of the extensive batch of payment card statements, a solution was devised based on message queues and well-defined workflows. The entire process underwent a meticulous analysis, and distinct workers were created to manage each stage of the process.

The exports from the credit card system undergo a secure transfer, validation, and import into an SQL database. Upon successful import, a job is initiated in the message queue server for each payment card within the monthly export. Data for every statement is processed, calculated, and compiled.

A PDF output is then generated, utilizing a customizable template, and encoded with a password before being stored. Afterwards, an email is automatically generated for the customer, with the PDF attached, and sent out.

A web-based monitoring dashboard, seamlessly integrated into the complex system, facilitates progress tracking and issue identification.

The entire solution is deployed as a containerized application on an on-premise cluster using an automated CI/CD solution. Cluster allows workers to be scaled according to load.
